How kalooki is played?

In kalooki each player receives 13 cards. Players can draw cards and discard cards. The objective is to meld the 13 cards by forming them into sets and runs. Equal ranked cards form sets and consecutive cards of a suit form runs. The first player, who melds all the 13 cards into sets and runs, wins game. Winning is called calling up.

Points in Kalooki

In kalooki the cards have points as below.

Ace – 11 points. 2 to 9 – Face value. Ten, King, Queen & Jack – 10 points. Joker – 15 points.

If joker is used in a meld to represent a card it gets the face value of that card. But, at the end, if a player has joker in hand it gets 15 penalty points.

Kalooki Stakes and the Deal

Players must agree on the stakes at the start of a kalooki game.

• Initial Stake is the amount paid to the pool by all the players at the beginning of a kalooki game.

• Call Up is the amount paid by all the other players to the winner of a hand.

• Kalooki is the amount paid to the winning player.

• Buy-In-Stake is the amount paid to the pool by a player to reenter the game.
